Coping strategies in the medical profession and their differentiation according to socio-demographic factors
Abstrakt: Cieľom štúdie bolo analyzovať rozdiely v stratégiách zvládania záťažových situácií v lekárskej profesii v kontexte vybraných sociálno-demografických premenných. Výskum mal deskriptívny, prierezový a kvantitatívny charakter a zameral sa na identifikáciu faktorov, ktoré môžu ovplyvňovať preferované copingové mechanizmy zdravotníckych pracovníkov. Výsledky ukázali, že pohlavie predstavuje najvýraznejší diferenciálny faktor v spôsobe zvládania záťaže. Mann-Whitneyho U-testom boli potvrdené štatisticky významné rozdiely v dvoch copingových stratégiách: sociálnej opore (p = ,024) a v riešení problémov (p = ,040), ktoré boli častejšie preferované ženami. V našom výskume organizácia práce a úroveň formálneho vzdelania nevykazovali signifikantné rozdiely.

Abstract: The aim of the study was to analyze differences in coping strategies in stressful situations in the medical profession in the context of selected socio-demographic variables. The research was descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative in nature and focused on identifying factors that may influence the preferred coping mechanisms of healthcare professionals. The results showed that gender is the most significant differential factor in the way stress is coped with. The Mann-Whitney U test confirmed statistically significant differences in two coping strategies: social support (p = .024) and problem solving (p = .040), which were more frequently preferred by women. In our research, work organization and level of formal education did not show significant differences. The findings point to the need to take gender specifics into account when designing interventions aimed at promoting the mental well-being of healthcare professionals. However, the interpretation of the results is limited by the fact that the data reflect the characteristics of a specific research sample and cannot be generalized to the wider population.
